During the FALL 2020 semester, I took a class named “Honors ENGL 2089” also known as the honors seminar version of the Intermediate Composition class. I have to admit that I had a lot of doubts and I was expecting the class to be very hard since it was an honors class but now that I think about it, I could have never asked for a better class. I loved this class because it has allowed me to learn more about communication. In fact, our very first assignment was writing a literacy narrative essay based on what impacted our personal communication styles. I remember that I personally talked about the fact that my communication has been impacted by the fact that I have travelled a lot and English was not my first language but I was eager to learn the language and that motivation helped me improve my communication skills. After that, we had to write a comparative genre analysis and we were asked to compare two different communication styles. It made me understand that there are thousands of ways to communicate and transmit a message. At the end of the semester, we had to choose a community / organization and make an analysis of how they communicate with one another. This experience has impacted me because it allowed me to improve my observation skills, become more attentive to the way people communicate and it made me a better person in general. That being said, I decided to share with you the last essay I wrote for that class about the way the Christian community “Hillsong Church” communicates.
